Scientists from Augusta University, United States showed a potential protective role for cannabidiol (CBD) during Acute Respiratory Distress Syndrome(ARDS) and suggested it could be the treatment for COVID-19. Cannabidiol (CBD) have shown it could reduce the cytokine storm, protecting pulmonary tissues, and re-establish inflammatory homeostasis.

Acute Respiratory Distress Syndrome (ARDS) is a life-threatening complication that makes patient unable to breathe as their lung become filled with cytokine storm fluid. Using the mice model, the research team from Augusta University, United States, showed cannabidiol (CBD) modulates cytokine storm and showed the possibility to stop COVID-19 complications.
Similarly, University of South Carolina reported tetrahydrocannabinol (THC) suppressed inflammatory cytokines through ARDS induced mice experiement.
